Qualifications: BSc Applied Psychology

PGCE in Education -Early years and key stage 1 

Post graduate qualification in teaching learners with VI. 

Sharmila started her role as an advisory teacher for children and young people with vision impairment in January 2023. She has participated in training on vision impairment and provided practical advice and support, as well as teaching braille to her caseload of pupils, so far. Before this, Sharmila worked as an Early year's teacher for 6 years in a SEN school for children and young people with physical, neurological impairment, and led her school to gain the EYFS gold quality standard. Prior to this, she taught seven years as a mainstream primary school teacher in nursery, reception and year 1. Early years is her passion. Sharmila has organised stay and play sessions with parents and believes in the importance of parent teacher partnerships to benefit pupil learning, and their social and emotional wellbeing. 

In her spare time, she tries to stay fit by going to the gym, and has recently started Bollywood dancing!
